The Nikon Z6 III is the most advanced camera in Nikon’s Z6 lineup, designed for
professional hybrid shooters who demand flagship-level performance in a compact and
weather-sealed body. At its core is the world’s first partially-stacked 24.5MP BSI
CMOS sensor, which delivers approximately 3.5x faster readout speed than the Z6 II.
This breakthrough significantly reduces rolling shutter and unlocks burst shooting
and video capabilities that were previously impossible at this class level.
SENSOR AND PROCESSING
The Z6 III is powered by the EXPEED 7 image processor — the same engine found in
Nikon’s flagship Z9 and Z8 cameras. This combination of the partially-stacked sensor
and EXPEED 7 allows the camera to handle extreme data loads with exceptional speed
and accuracy, resulting in cleaner files, better high-ISO performance, and faster
overall operation than any previous Z6-series camera.
CONTINUOUS SHOOTING AND BURST PERFORMANCE
The Z6 III offers continuous shooting at up to 20 frames per second in full-
resolution RAW format. In JPEG mode, it reaches 60 fps at full-frame and up to
120 fps in DX-crop mode. The Pre-Release Capture function saves up to one full
second of frames before the shutter is fully pressed, ensuring that fast and
unpredictable action is never missed. These speeds make the Z6 III one of the
fastest mirrorless cameras available in its class.
VIDEO CAPABILITIES
The Z6 III records internal 6K/60p video in Nikon’s own N-RAW format directly
to a CFexpress Type B card — no external recorder required. For Apple-based
workflows, it also supports internal 5.4K/60p recording in Apple ProRes RAW.
Additional video modes include 4K at up to 120fps and Full HD at 240fps for
high-quality slow-motion footage. All recording is available in 10-bit with
support for N-Log and HLG picture profiles, and a full-size HDMI Type-A port
allows clean signal output to an external recorder or monitor.
AUTOFOCUS SYSTEM
The Z6 III uses an AI-driven phase-detection autofocus system that covers
approximately 90% of the image frame. The system detects nine subject types:
people, dogs, cats, birds, aircraft, trains, automobiles, motorcycles, and
bicycles. Eye-detection and face-detection AF are available for both humans and
animals. Low-light autofocus performance extends down to -10 EV, making the
Z6 III highly capable in extremely dim conditions.
ELECTRONIC VIEWFINDER
The Z6 III features a 5,760,000-dot OLED electronic viewfinder with a peak
brightness of 4,000 nits — the brightest EVF Nikon has ever produced, and
approximately 33% brighter than the Z9. The viewfinder covers the DCI-P3 wide
color gamut and operates at a refresh rate of up to 120fps, providing a smooth
and natural viewing experience in any lighting condition.
MONITOR AND CONTROLS
The camera includes a 3.2-inch vari-angle touchscreen with 2,100,000 dots of
resolution. The screen tilts both horizontally and vertically, making it suitable
for photography and video in a wide range of shooting positions including overhead,
low-angle, and portrait orientation.
IMAGE STABILIZATION
The Z6 III incorporates a 5-axis in-body image stabilization system rated at up
to 8 stops of compensation when used with compatible Nikon Z lenses in Synchro VR
mode. This makes handheld shooting in low light and at slow shutter speeds
significantly more reliable.
STORAGE AND CONNECTIVITY
The camera features dual card slots supporting CFexpress Type B / XQD in the
first slot and SD UHS-II in the second slot. Connectivity includes USB-C
(SuperSpeed) for charging and tethered shooting, full-size HDMI Type-A output,
a 3.5mm microphone input, a headphone output, a line-in port, built-in Wi-Fi
(802.11 b/g/n/a/ac), and Bluetooth 5.0. The camera is also compatible with
Nikon Imaging Cloud for wireless file transfer and over-the-air firmware updates.
BATTERY AND POWER
The Z6 III uses the EN-EL15c rechargeable lithium-ion battery with support for
USB-C in-camera charging. Battery life is rated at approximately 390 shots per
charge when using the EVF, or approximately 410 shots when using the rear LCD
monitor, based on CIPA testing standards.
BUILD QUALITY
The body is constructed from magnesium alloy combined with Sereebo carbon-fiber-
reinforced plastic, providing a high strength-to-weight ratio. The camera is
fully weather-sealed against dust and moisture and is rated for operation in
temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius (14 degrees Fahrenheit).
